The other day one of my friends shared something on Facebook that was definitely worth sharing. It went like this:
You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere.
Why did you spill the coffee?
“Well because someone bumped into me, of course!”
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
*Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. *
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled.
*So, we have to ask ourselves… “what’s in my cup?”
When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?
Today let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.
This stuck with me for a good majority of the day as I thought about what I spill when I get rattled. I even asked a few others that have to deal with my nonsense on a regular basis. As hard as I try to hold everything together, there are those days when I absolutely lose it, but I still maintain that positivity and kindness that others say is extremely contagious. When I heard someone say that about me, it made my entire body smile.
I have no idea who originally made the post that was shared, but I want to thank them. It is posts like this that make you truly think of ways to better yourself, which in turn betters the world. We all have our flaws that need a little attention. It could be what you spill over when you’re rattled or it could be something completely different. Just own it and work on it.
Have a good one!
